The actor, who is engaged to singer Kylie Minogue, said earlier this month that the couple will not tie the knot until marriage equality is available in Australia. This week, opposition to the government chose to block a public vote on the issue.
Speaking to TheFIX, Sasse, who is British, said: "I'm really hoping that it won't be a matter of years, and that public and global change will turn the tide. Hopefully we won't [have to wait to get married]."
Sasse, 28, and 48-year-old Minogue are said to have come to the decision to postpone their wedding until a law allowing same-sex marriage is passed.
The couple met last year on the set of TV show Galavant. They announced their engagement in February 2016.
