Work To Begin On Draft Same-Sex Bill

It has been reported that work is to begin on a draft bill which would legalise same-sex marriage in Northern Ireland.

Finance Minister Máirtín Ó Muilleoir is understood to have written to the Alliance Party's Stewart Dickson saying he wants the NI Assembly to legislate work on the issue.

While Mr Ó Muilleoir did admit that he has "a little way to go" in securing support from other MLAs, he was positive that legislation could be passed during the current assembly term.

Currently, Northern Ireland is the only region in the UK where same-sex marriage has not been legalised.
