The appearance follows speculation that the couple have decided to give their marriage another go.
Last year, a representative for Zeta-Jones, confirmed the pair had made the decision to end their 13-year marriage.
At the time, a statement was released, saying the couple "are taking time apart" in order to "evaluate and work on their marriage".
There have been reports recently that suggested the pair had reunited, but Tuesday marked their first public appearance together since before they separated.
They were attending the opening night performance of Soderbergh-directed production The Library at the Public Theater in New York.
Douglas, 69, and 44-year-old Zeta-Jones first met in France in 1998, before tying the knot in November 2000. They have two children together – Dylan and Carys.
